WELCOME TO SPAIN!
In Spain we got four different kind of ibex, what we called the Spanish Ibex Slam:
-
Gredos Ibex
-
Beceite Ibex
-
Ronda Ibex
-
Southeastern Ibex
WHERE
They’re four different species and live in different areas. You can find the places in the map as they're called by the ibex living there.
WHEN
Although the ibex season is large, the best time of the year for this hunt is during fall (November or December), when they are rutting, or during spring time. In spring time usually the weather is nicer and the males separate from females, creating large groups of bulls.
FREE OR FENCE
We always hunt in free range, most of the times in Natural Reserves. The landscapes are breathtaking and we're surrounded by pure wilderness.
HOW
The typical hunting day would be waking up early in the morning, going hunting and spend all the day in the woods. We carry food in our backpacks, so we can stop for have lunch in a good spot where we can be scouting at the same time.
HOW HIGH
Even though the areas are different, Spain in not such a high country and the average altitude is around 4,500 / 5,500 feet.
DAYS
We book 13 days for this hunt. It usually takes 2 days per animal, plus the 2 days travelling (the day you arrive and the day you leave), and one more in case we need it. We don't like to hunt in a hurry!
It is the smallest species of the 4 Ibex that exist in Spain. Both in body size and horns.
We find it, as its name suggests, in the Sierra de Ronda and its surroundings.
